Ari Lennox first posted songs online in the year 2012. Her debut album Ariography and her mixtape debut in 2013, five Finger Discount. In 2014 she continued to share her music over the internet including her independently launched single Bound. In 2015, she appeared in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat released on the 21st of July. J. Cole had her send her songs to the Dreamville Team later in the year because he was hoping for Rihanna to work alongside her on some of the songs.
